Ericeira Analogue Masterclass

The definitive analogue experience. Spend two days immersed in film photography - capturing stunning images in Ericeira, developing your own negatives, and hand-crafting silver gelatin prints in the darkroom.

In The Masterclass

  • Two women walking along a narrow brick pathway surrounded by tall plants, both carrying film cameras, with bright sunlight and clear blue sky.

    Day One: Capture & Develop

We begin in the wild. Heading out to the coastline of Ericeira, we’ll go through the basics of film photography and put the theory in practice shooting a roll of black and white. After exposing your roll, we’ll head to the home lab to dive into development, learning how to bring out the latent images you’ve created.

  • Black and white photographic prints hanging in a dark room in red light.

Day Two: The Art of the Print

In the second half of our analogue masterclass, we’ll switch on the red light and explore printing in the darkroom. You’ll get familiar with photographic paper and the enlarger, bringing your images to their final physical medium as it journeys through the printing trays.

  • Two black and white photographic prints on a wooden table

    Build Your Analogue Archive

At the end of this course, not only will you leave fully equipped with the knowledge to develop and print your own photos, but you’ll also take the first steps towards building your portfolio, developed negatives and analogue prints in hand.

What You’ll Learn

  • The Fundamentals of Film

Stripping photography back to its basics, you’ll learn how to expose, compose, and shoot for different scenarios, lights, and shadows.

  • Negative Processing

You’ll gain full autonomy over your film, from start to finish. We will guide you through the lab workflow, while providing the knowledge needed to produce quality negatives from your own home.

  • Traditional Darkroom Printing

Translate your negatives into finished work. You will learn how to operate a professional enlarger and determine exposure through test strips. We cover the manual "wet-bench" process—Developer, Stop, and Fix—to create silver gelatin prints.
