Analogue Photowalk

Load a fresh roll. Hit the cliffs. See what comes out.

In This Workshop

  • A person loading a camera with film on a wooden table

    The Basics (30 min)

We start with a focused "info dump" to demystify the exposure triangleโ€”Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO. You'll get hands-on with one of our loner cameras, learn the tactile art of loading your film, and receive your Ericeira Analogue cheat sheet to guide your settings as we chase the light.

  • Woman taking a photo in nature with a man in the midground and the ocean and mountain in the background

    The Photowalk (1.5h)

We head to the cliffs outside of town to capture the dramatic Atlantic coastline during the golden hour. Youโ€™ll put theory into practice, using the "See-Saw" method to balance light and motion as you shoot through your roll. From sweeping landscapes to coastal flora, you'll learn to compose shots that tell the story of the Ericeira wilderness.

  • A person holding a strip of 35mm film in front of a tiled wall

    Take it with you

Once the sun sets and your roll is spent, the chemistry begins. Your film will be developed, ensuring your images are captured exactly as intended. Youโ€™ll receive high-quality digital scans via a download link the very next day. Your physical negatives can be picked up at our Sรฃo Lourenรงo studio or mailed directly to your home, anywhere in the world.
Note: We offer free pick-up and drop-off within Ericeira to make getting to the cliffs easy and stress-free.

What Youโ€™ll Learn

  • The Exposure Triangle

Youโ€™ll learn how to balance Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISOโ€”the "Exposure Triangle"โ€”to take full creative control of your images using our dedicated cheat sheets.

  • Composition

Film rewards the patient and the precise. Learn to use the "Rule of Thirds," leading lines, and natural framing to capture the dramatic textures of Ericeiraโ€™s cliffs and the raw energy of the ocean.

  • The Analogue Workflow

Master the end-to-end workflow, from the tactile ritual of loading a fresh roll to the technical "Pre-Shot Checklist". Youโ€™ll learn why film's unique chemistry rewards overexposure and how your settings translate into the final physical negatives.

FAQs

  • Yes! If you have a favorite 35mm camera, bring it. If not, a vintage SLR will be provided.

  • Weโ€™ll be walking along dirt coastal paths by the seaside. Itโ€™s not a challenging mountain hike but comfortable shoes are recommended for the uneven and sandy terrain. Itโ€™s also a good idea to bring a warm layer in case the weather shifts.

  • From beginners who have never shot a photo on film, to experts looking for good scenery and extra tips, everyone is welcome.

  • For a consistent experience, film is provided for the workshop and itโ€™s preferred for everyone to use the same stock. In case youโ€™re curious, weโ€™ll be shooting on Fomapan 400.

  • We shoot in most weatherโ€”Ericeiraโ€™s mist and clouds make for incredible film photos! If we cancel due to dangerous weather, youโ€™ll receive a full refund or a reschedule. If you need to cancel, please let us know 3 days in advance for a full refund. Inside that 3-day window, bookings are final, but fully transferable to a friend.
